International Applied Biology Olympiad (IABO) 2026 Successfully Brings Together Young Scientific Talents from Seven Countries in Bali, Indonesia

Bali, Indonesia – June 11–14, 2026 – The Indonesian Scientific Society (ISS) proudly organized the International Applied Biology Olympiad (IABO) 2026, a prestigious international academic competition dedicated to promoting excellence in biological sciences among students worldwide. The event was successfully held from June 11 to June 14, 2026, at the HARRIS Hotel Sunset Road Bali, Indonesia, bringing together outstanding young scientists from across Asia and Europe.

This year's Olympiad welcomed 214 participants from seven countries, namely Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Armenia, Russia, and Romania. The event served as an international platform where students could showcase their scientific knowledge, research abilities, critical thinking skills, and passion for biology while fostering international friendship and cultural exchange.

The International Applied Biology Olympiad 2026 was designed not only as a competition but also as an educational experience that encouraged collaboration, innovation, and scientific curiosity among the next generation of researchers and leaders.

A Global Celebration of Biological Sciences

Biology plays a vital role in understanding life, ecosystems, human health, biodiversity, and environmental sustainability. Through IABO 2026, students were challenged to apply biological concepts to real-world issues and demonstrate their ability to analyze complex scientific problems.

The Olympiad consisted of multiple rounds, including cognitive examinations and scientific presentation studies, allowing participants to demonstrate both theoretical knowledge and practical communication skills. The competition covered a wide range of biological disciplines, including genetics, ecology, microbiology, biotechnology, anatomy, physiology, environmental science, and modern biological research.

Throughout the competition, participants displayed remarkable enthusiasm and dedication, proving that scientific excellence knows no borders.

Strong International Participation

The participation of students from seven different countries reflected the growing importance of international collaboration in science education. Delegations from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Armenia, Russia, and Romania brought diverse perspectives and academic experiences to the competition.

The Olympiad created a unique environment where students from different cultures could learn from one another, exchange ideas, and build friendships that may continue long after the competition concludes.

Many participants described the event as a valuable opportunity to connect with fellow science enthusiasts and gain exposure to international academic standards.

Competitive Yet Healthy Academic Atmosphere

One of the most remarkable aspects of IABO 2026 was the spirit of healthy competition demonstrated by all participants. Although the competition was highly challenging, students competed with integrity, professionalism, and mutual respect.

The cognitive tests required participants to solve complex biological problems within limited timeframes, while the scientific presentation studies challenged them to communicate research findings and scientific analyses effectively before a panel of experts.

The competition was conducted under the supervision of six professional judges, all of whom possess extensive experience in biology education, scientific research, and international academic competitions.

The judges carefully evaluated each participant based on scientific accuracy, analytical thinking, presentation quality, originality, and problem-solving ability. Their rigorous assessment ensured fairness, transparency, and adherence to international standards.

Messages from the Professional Jury Panel

The jury panel expressed admiration for the high level of competence displayed by participants throughout the Olympiad.

Prof. Dr. Topik Hidayat, M.Si., Ph.D. stated:

"The quality of students participating in IABO 2026 has been exceptional. We witnessed outstanding scientific reasoning, creativity, and dedication. The future of biological sciences is certainly bright with young talents such as these."

Dr. Eneng Susilawati, M.Sc. highlighted the significance of scientific communication:

"Knowledge alone is not enough. Scientists must also be able to communicate their ideas effectively. The presentation sessions demonstrated that many participants possess both strong scientific understanding and excellent communication skills."

Prof. Dr. Fenny Martha Dwivany, S.Si., M.Si. emphasized the importance of international scientific collaboration:

"Events like IABO help build a global scientific community. Students learn that science is a universal language that connects people regardless of nationality or background."

Annisa, M.Si., Ph.D. remarked:

"We encourage all participants to continue pursuing scientific discovery and research. Every challenge encountered during this Olympiad is a stepping stone toward future achievements."

Prof. Dr. Didi Priyandoko, M.Si., Ph.D. commented:

"Winning a medal is an honor, but the most valuable reward is the experience gained through learning, collaboration, and intellectual growth."

Prof. Ir. Ramadhani Eka Putra, M.Si., Ph.D. concluded:

"We are proud of every participant. Their passion for biology and commitment to excellence have made this Olympiad truly inspiring."

Remarks from the Organizing Committee Chair
